Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI)

Neighborhood National Bank (NNB) is a community bank headquartered in San Diego, California.  Established in 1997, it is a designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) as designated by the US Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund.

NNB became the first CDFI in the nation to receive a national bank charter to bring more financial services to under-served communities.  As such, NNB is a full-service bank and a catalyst for economic development.

As a CDFI, NNB promotes community development and revitalization in low- and moderate-income areas by providing access to credit and other financial services.  NNB has a goal of specifically addressing the financial services needs of under-served communities and low- and moderate-income persons.

NNB is one of only 61 banks in the nation to hold a CDFI certification.  CDFIs are specialized financial institutions that work in market niches that have not been adequately served by traditional financial institutions.  CDFIs include community development banks, credit unions, loan funds, venture capital funds, and microenterprise loan funds.  The goal of a CDFI is to help rebuild communities across the country.

Investors can receive "qualified investment" credits per CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) guidelines for their investments in a CDFI.
